Summer Creative Writing Camp — 2008 Because of high demand, applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Description Summer workshops are led by Austin’s best writers: award-winning poets, novelists, playwrights, and essayists. Students write poetry and prose, and learn to revise and edit their work for publication. The camp culminates in the publication of a beautiful, library-quality anthology and two public readings, the second followed by a book signing with campers. A copy of the published anthology is donated to each student's school library as well as to every branch of the Austin Public Library. The anthologies are also sold at BookPeople. Other camp activities include field trips to the Austin Museum of Art, the Art House at the Jones Center, and to the University of Texas's Harry Ransom Center. Classes are small (12-15 students), and students are placed within their age group. Camps are open to all Austin-area rising 3rd - 12th graders; no exceptions. Parent Orientation will be conducted prior to the camp session, and the cost of the camp is $400, which includes three weeks of writing workshops, daily snacks, a journal, a copy of the anthology, a Badgerdog T-shirt, and two public reading events.
