10-week summer program. YIP offers a structured, safe atmosphere for youth to learn new skills, explore the environment, help the community, expand their leadership skills, develop new friendships, and have fun. Participants perform volunteer work and take community tours in the mornings and participate in fun recreational activities in the afternoon. Youth In Parks is based out of Archie Brooks Community Center, 2100 SE 5th Street in Des Moines. Camp drop-off at the community center is from 7:00-8:00 a.m. During this time youth have the option to play basketball, board games, card games, ping-pong, foosball, or pool. Camp activities start at 8:00 a.m. when everyone leaves the community center for the morning project. Everyone returns to the community center for pick-up from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Youth can stay for open recreation until 6:00 p.m. Parent/guardian(s) can register youth for the whole summer or pick and choose which weeks they would like them to attend.
