Stage One: Teen Theatre is designed to foster each young actor's personal growth and theatrical development. We seek to involve any student who is interested in enriching his or her creativity and artistic education through a rewarding and exciting learning experience. Each course/workshop is designed to give students an overview of various techniques, which will enhance existing knowledge of art and drama. Through these workshops Stage One will offer the individual artist a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience.
In Company One’s Stage One: Teen Theatre program, young artists will have the opportunity to use an impulse-based process of creating theater. The Stage One instructors will guide participants through introduction to improvisation, advanced improvisation, character development and scene creation. In addition to instruction by Stage One’s roster of theater educators, the participants will also be treated to workshops in specialized areas including but not limited to: stage combat, voice, dance and movement for the theatre. Each workshop will be presented by a professional in that given specialty, allowing our young artists to work not only with some of Boston’s most gifted theatre educators but also practitioners of the art.
Session A: INTRO TO IMPROVISATION (July 19th - July 30th)
This two-week session is designed to familiarize students with the basic tools necessary for the art of acting. INTRO TO IMPROVISATION provides an introduction to basic voice and movement for the actor, and features games and exercises made famous by the hit television program "Whose Line Is It Anyway." This workshop will develop the students’ ability to comfortably and confidently act/react with others in an improvisational situation, and serves as an ideal introduction to improvisation for the inexperienced student as well as an opportunity for the more experienced student to further refine their improvisational acting skills.
