Studio I: July 7 - 11 Subway Insider For students entering grades 9-11 In this week-long program, high school students will be challenged to redesign an entrance for the New York Transit Museum that makes the museum more visible and universally accessible and creates a special/unique presence on the street. The New York Transit Museum in Brooklyn Heights is housed in a 1936 historic IND subway station, decommissioned in 1946. Students in this program will develop an understanding of the process of designing subways and understand how technology has impacted and changed this process. Students’ solutions will be informed by their site analysis and independent research, as well as the history of subway design and the role of art underground. At the completion of the program, students will have created a scale model of the site and gained experience with 3D computer rendering. Workshops will be held at both the Center for Architecture and the New York Transit Museum. All Studio sessions are held Monday through Friday from 9am-4pm....
