Focus on Character Building. Day Campers enjoy crafts, recreational activities, educational trips and lessons as well as putt-putting, swimming, skating, movies and other activities throughout the summer. Children learn to work with others and respect one another as well as sportmanship and manners. Parents are encouraged to volunteer at any time, esp. during field trips or craft activities. The days include games, songs, arts and crafts, and one-on-one reading time with caring, adult volunteers. Adult reading volunteers who have been recruited from local churches help the children improve fluency, vocabulary, and text comprehension. After lunches are provided, children and community volunteers from all walks of life come together for “Afternoon Enrichment”. Children are exposed to assorted activities that may not be offered on a regular basis in public school environments, such as outdoor recreation, creative art projects, field trips, and local playground activities. Located at Old Meadows Farm (just south of Walnut Creek Park), Camp Goosechase offers two-week sessions for horse-loving girls. Camp days run from 9:00-4:00, with total immersion into life with horses and life on the farm.
